The PlayStation Vita

PlayStation Vita

The article that I read was about PlayStation’s latest gadget. The PlayStation Vita is Sony's second portable gaming console. It is similar to the PSP, PlayStation's first gaming console, but it has a lot more features. The PSVita has a five inch screen with two analog sticks. The PSVita weighs lighter than the PSP and is a bit smaller. What makes the PSVita so distinct from the PSP is that there is no need for disks! The PSVita runs on thumbnail sized cards. You could also download games online and it would be saved on the memory. The PSVita needs a memory stick if you’re going to download features. A camera is found behind the device and the speakers are found in the front. The PSVita is touch screen too!! Maybe it’s not as advanced as any other touch screen device but it seems to work. The PSVita can handle several applications on (open) while you’re playing all at the same time.

One feature about the PSVita that I didn’t like was the battery life. The battery lasts around five hours, without using wi-fi. I find this a little depressing. I like to play for hours on any portable console and I don’t want to be sitting next to a plug outlet charging and playing.
The PlayStation Vita will be available on February 22, 2012 for North America. The 3G unit costs $299.99 (sort of expensive). The Wi-Fi unit costs $249.99. The memory chip’s cost ranges from $20-$100 (depending on how much memory you want).

The PSVita seems like a great portable device but it’s not for me. I enjoy my PS3, and I’m happy with what I have. Maybe I’ll try it out in another time, but not now. For now, I love my PS3 and I’m committed to it.

  1. The concept of the PS Vita seems pretty cool. I for one use be a former PSP owner and it would be cool to have one with a touch screen. Though, the fact that you have to use thumbnailed size cards? I would have probably would have lost the first two games I had for this.

  2. Caroline! You're right, I wouldn't like to be sitting next to an outlet charging my portable console either. I have to admit, it does look pretty cool though.

  4. Your right, the PSVita seems pretty cool, but the life battery fact sucks! I wouldn't go ahead and buy it either, but other than that it seems like a cool console.
